Heslin & Associates is hoping to appeal vacationers who are looking for a good cause and at the same time seek to relax on the high seas. The first-annual 2008 Salsa Cruise – “Dance 4 Donor” theme vacation may hit the right steps. To the cruise’s organizers, the goal is to raise awareness of Leukemia, a malignant disease (cancer) of the bone marrow and blood. According to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the rates for the disease are substantially higher for Hispanic children. Hispanic children of all races under the age of 20 have the highest rates of leukemia.
According to Heslin & Associates’ cruise agent, Lillian Malavet, once on board the ship, passengers will visit two different ports of call (George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico), where they can shop ‘til they drop or take a break on the beach or any of their fabulous resorts. Passengers booked for the Salsa cruise can also take part on many of the ship’s other activities offered on board. Private lounges have been booked exclusively for passengers booked through Heslin & Associates, which includes special guest speakers, salsa dancing workshops during the day, cocktail parties (all drinks inclusive) and nightly gala dances with a live Salsa orchestra. “It will be our own private event...like one big Salsa family,” explains Malavet.
Jorge Laureano, bandleader/lead singer, is one of the event’s organizers; he became involved after learning of the high incidence of leukemia. “I was compelled to make a difference and felt it was crucial that all Latinos make a difference.” Laureano’s own band, FIESTA, will be performing on the cruise. Originally from New York City, FIESTA is a 14-piece Salsa orchestra featuring High-Energy NY style Salsa. The orchestra performs its own original musical production which has been well received by the huge fan following they now have in the Central Florida area!
